Artistas Sociedade de Faro (OS Artistas) Faro Portugal.

Here are the two videos from the 1 hour and a half quicky demonstration that Nuno Lorena set up at the Artistas Sociedade de Faro (OS Artistas) in Faro Portugal. Nuno's friend Nuno Fontainhas (a not so common name, yet I now know three Nunos in the Algarve) filmed with his two video cameras and as well as with my little hand held. We had Laura Anna Genné graciously sit for the sketch in payment for the sketch. I think the demo started around 12 am and went till 1:30 or so, I don't remember much past the first hour or so, but it was a great last night in Faro before I shot up to Lisbon on the last leg of my trip in July. Nuno Fontainhas took all of the raw footage and created this great mashup of the event. There is a slight disparity between the camera formats so I posted the time lapse of the drawing from the unstretched video from over my shoulder.

David, this is awesome. Thank you very much for sharing.

Hey got a question. What is that thing you use in the very beginning to get the proportions and major values down? And is it charcoal you are spreading?

Oh and why and what exactly do you use the binoculars for?

Thanks David,

Jussi Tarvainen

I was also wondering what that device you were using is and what it's used for... is it simply binoculars for when you're woring on details that you can't see from your seating position?

Great video, thanks for sharing, keener than ever to get your DVD now.

ARE you using binoculars? I thought you were just shading your eyes from the light behind you. In which case I was going to suggest sunglasses. :P
Do you find it awkward at all to draw on a stationary vertical surface, David? I often find it convenient to be able to easily rotate the surface sometimes while drawing.
Nice video, BTW.

Really good video, thank you for sharing.
I am also curious as to what you are drawing with at the start of the video?

Cheers

Dear David,
Wonderful demo. What brush are you using to block in the large masses.
I would like to use them when I teach drawing for my adult students. I try to teach shape, values, edges and then color. The amateur aritsts always want to dive into color. They all need a better concept of strong drawing principles.

Can someone tell me the difference between white charcoal, white chalk, and white pastel.

Do they each blend differently with charcoal or graphite, and when would you use which?
